Step Aside, Jalen Hurts: Lamar Jackson Leapfrogs Eagles QB as Highest-Paid Player

The Baltimore Ravens made quarterback Lamar Jackson the NFL's highest-paid player on Thursday, ending a short-lived run at the top of that list from Philadelphia Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts wasn't able to bask in the glory of the title of "NFL's highest-paid player" for long. Just 10 days, as a matter of fact.

Per multiple reports, star quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a new five-year, $260 million contract extension on Thursday that now makes him the league's highest-paid player on a per-year basis and keeps him with the team through the 2027 season. This trumps Hurts' short-lived record-breaking five-year, $255 million contract extension that will keep him in Philly through 2028.

"Once Jalen Hurts got his deal, Baltimore stepped up and essentially made Lamar Jackson an offer he could not refuse," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Thursday.

Jackson will receive $185 million in guaranteed money. This is also more than Hurts, who will get $179.3 million guaranteed. However, the Eagles star gets a $23.294 million signing bonus and has about $15 million in total incentives.

More details about Jackson's deal are likely to be revealed at a later date, but for now, Hurts appears to be the only one with a no-trade clause. He became the first player in Eagles history to receive the clause on his contract.

Two of the NFL's most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks and overall players have now solidified their futures with their respective teams. All that's left? A potential meeting in Super Bowl LVIII next season, which is certainly the expectation for two quarterbacks that now have outrageously heavy pockets.
