Philadelphia Eagles Coach Nick Sirianni Reveals Why Jalen Hurts Has 'Thrived' in NFL

Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni recently discussed what makes quarterback Jalen Hurts so hard to stop from succeeding.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has had a lot of success in a short period in the NFL, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know what it's like to face adversity. And we're not talking about the kind of adversity that comes after losing a Week 6 game to the New York Jets that many expected the Eagles to win going away.

Among other ways, the adversity Hurts has overcome includes being benched in college in favor of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who Philadelphia and Hurts will face Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Hurts overcame that by becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2019. Then he overcame being an underrated late second-round NFL Draft pick by becoming the starter by the end of his rookie year and a Super Bowl-bound quarterback by the end of his third.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni says it's all about Hurts' mindset when asked to explain how his quarterback clears every hurdle placed on his path.

"He is just very steady in his mental makeup," Siranni said about Hurts. "Focusing on the next play, the next game, and getting better...I think when you go through adversity, it's common to think about what's going to happen in the future...I think the mindset that Jalen has is to be locked in right where he is in the moment and handle the things that he can control ... I've noticed that about him from the moment I've been around him and I think that that's why (he has) thrived ... his mindset of being locked in, his mindset of not being denied."

Sirianni was happy to brag about his quarterback a bit, which is something you won't find Hurts himself doing much these days, even if the bravado is well-earned.

This is why you won't hear Hurts taking a verbal victory lap if his Philadelphia squad is able to topple Tagovailoa's on Sunday night.
