The Philadelphia Eagles suddenly popped up in Justin Fields trade rumors amid Monday's free-agency frenzy, as the Chicago Bears QB was linked to Philly as a potential backup option to Jalen Hurts.

Whether there's any truth to the speculation or not, the Eagles now have to figure out their QB2 situation after Tuesday morning's news.

Per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Eagles free-agent quarterback Marcus Mariota is signing with the Washington Commanders.

"Former Eagles QB Marcus Mariota is signing with the Washington Commanders on a 1-year deal with a base value of $6 million and upside to $10 million, per source," Schefter tweeted.

Mariota, 30, appeared in four games this past season, including the Wild Card playoff loss. He went 15 of 23 passing for 164 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding eight carries for 52 yards. Most of this production came in Philly's 33-25 loss to the New York Giants in Week 16.

The Eagles signed Mariota as the backup to Jalen Hurts last offseason, but he under-performed in the preseason and in limited regular-season action. Many fans pushed for rookie quarterback Tanner McKee to be the full-time backup after an impressive preseason, but he never appeared in a game during the regular season.
