Eagles Sign Ex Jaguars TE Dan Arnold, Add Underrated Weapon

The Philadelphia Eagles will mark Dan Arnold's fifth team since he entered the league in 2018.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a potentially valuable addition to their roster on Thursday, as ESPN reported that the team has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with veteran tight end Dan Arnold.

Arnold played with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, appearing in all 17 games. He was traded to the Jags from the Carolina Panthers during the 2021 season. The Eagles will now be Arnold's fifth team since entering the league in 2018, as he's also suited up for the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals.

Arnold joins the Eagles with the projection that he'll be the direct backup to standout tight end Dallas Goedert due to his experience and receiving skills. Arnold hasn't caught a touchdown since 2020, but showed he could still produce in 2021 in his first handful of games with the Jags. After being traded to Jacksonville, he posted 60 or more receiving yards in four out of seven games to end the season, providing then-rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a comfortable security blanket.

The Eagles leaned heavily on Goedert last season despite the fact he missed five games with a shoulder injury. Outside of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Goedert was Philly's third-leading receiver with 702 yards on 55 catches to go along with three touchdowns.

Adding Arnold to the fold gives quarterback Jalen Hurts another trusty weapon to rely on, especially in situations where Brown and Smith draw the attention. If the Eagles can get the Dan Arnold that had that surprising seven-game stretch in 2021, the offense will be even more dangerous moving forward.
