The Philadelphia Eagles will be without star rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter and cornerback Darius Slay when they take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Carter reportedly suffered an ankle injury in practice on Wednesday that will likely force him to miss the Week 6 game. Head coach Nick Sirianni gave an update on his injury and said that despite the absence, there is no concern that the injury would keep him out any longer than that.

Here's the full injury report:

The 22-year-old rookie has looked like one of the best defensive players in the NFL to start the season. He has racked up 3.5 sacks, four tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in five games. He is currently PFF's No. 1 interior defender with a grade of 91.8, ahead of Dexter Lawrence, DaQuan Jones and Aaron Donald.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter is the third-highest graded defensive player in the NFL according to PFF.

Philadelphia's rotation at defensive tackle without Carter will likely consist of Jordan Davis, Fletcher Cox, Milton Williams and Marlon Tuipulotu. They will be going up against a poor and injured Jets offensive line.

The Eagles traded up from No. 10 to No. 9 in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Carter from the University of Georgia. He was one of the best players in college football with the Bulldogs, recording 15.5 sacks in his final two seasons while also winning back-to-back National Championships.

Carter is only expected to miss the one game, so his chances at winning Defensive Rookie of the Year shouldn't be hampered too much by the injury.

As for Slay, his knee injury adds to the list for a secondary that has been bumped and bruised with injuries early this season.

The Eagles will now rely James Bradberry and newly-signe veteran Bradley Roby in Slay's absence.
