Zach Ertz Clears Waivers, Philadelphia Eagles Have 'Interest' in Signing

Former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is officially a free agent.

Former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz officially cleared waivers Friday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. After coming to a mutual parting of ways with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, Ertz is now able to sign wherever he chooses.

Could the Eagles be a suitor? For the Philly fans hopeful for a reunion, that appears to be a real possibility, per Schefter.

"Former Cardinals’ TE Zach Ertz cleared waivers today and is now free to sign with any team, per source," Schefter tweeted. "The Eagles, a franchise for which Ertz needs 11 catches to pass Harold Carmichael and become their all-time leading receiver, are expected to have interest in re-signing him."

However, Schefter added that the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are three other teams that could be in the running.

"Zach Ertz wants to land with contender," Schefter tweeted. "Candidates could include Kansas City, Baltimore and Buffalo."

Of course, after spending the first 8 1/2 years of his career in Philly where he became one of the best offensive players in franchise history and helped the team win Super Bowl LII, it's only natural for the Eagles to be mentioned as team that could sign him. After all, Philadelphia is dealing with injuries at the position, as standout tight end Dallas Goedert (forearm) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's pivotal matchup with the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field.

During his time as an Eagle, Ertz played in 123 games while posting 579 catches, 6,279 yards and 38 touchdowns. He made three straight Pro Bowls from 2017-2019.

Who knows? Maybe he's able to add to this total by season's end and become the franchise's all-time leader in catches.

The Eagles (10-1) and 49ers (8-3) kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday from Lincoln Financial Field.
