After suffering from subpar quarterback play over the past couple of seasons, the Atlanta Falcons hope that free agency pickup Kirk Cousins will be the cure to what ails them.

In the Falcons' eyes, an upgrade at quarterback should be the final step towards becoming a playoff contender once more. They have a solid set of weapons, a great offensive line and a defense that took huge strides in 2023, so the pieces are in place. If Cousins can elevate the Falcons' offense, then there's a very good chance they could return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Unsurprisingly, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot is eager to see what his new QB will bring to the fold.

"To bring a player like that -- knowing the mindset, the mentality, the leadership; all those areas -- we know he's going to be a multiplier for us," Fontenot said of Cousins. "We have a lot of good, young talent on offense. We have a really good offensive line that's chomping at the bit. So, now, you bring in a player like that, we know he's going to be a multiplier, so yes, there is excitement right now."

Cousins is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and has consistently been one of the league's better quarterbacks over the past several years. He's also familiar with the offense Atlanta will run under Zac Robinson, as he played under a similar system with the Minnesota Vikings over the past two seasons.

The 35-year-old is coming off a torn Achilles, but if he bounces back like the Falcons expect him to, there should be great things in their future.
