Falcons Should Sign WR Before Season, Says ESPN

ESPN has put forth an idea for what the Atlanta Falcons should do as their final offseason move.

The Atlanta Falcons appear poised to run over their opponents in 2023 with a dominant group of running backs. However, whether they can complement this strength with a robust passing game remains to be determined.

Over the past two seasons, the Falcons have faced challenges in their receiver corps. When Calvin Ridley took a break from football in 2021, the team had to rely on a thin group of receivers, primarily led by Russell Gage. In 2022, they heavily leaned on rookie Drake London and Olamide Zaccheaus. The team lacked depth throughout both years, and their second receiver would not have held the same position on most NFL teams.

Nevertheless, in a recent article suggesting the last offseason move for each team, ESPN has proposed a potential solution to address this issue in the final stages before the regular season.

"While the Falcons ran the ball on the highest percentage of plays in the league last year (51.1% of offensive plays) and have two possible stars in London and tight end Kyle Pitts, they simply must address the receiver spot with either someone already available or someone who could become available," ESPN writes.

In the upcoming season, the Falcons are banking on Mack Hollins to step up as their primary second receiver after a solid performance in 2022.

However, concerns about the team's depth at the position persist. Unless Atlanta plans to rely heavily on London, Hollins, and various other options across different positions in their passing game, there are concerns regarding the limited track record of Hollins, who has only had one standout year. Having only one other established option in veteran receiver Scotty Miller may also raise concerns.

If veteran receivers like J.J. Arcega-Whiteside or Frank Darby do not have an exceptional summer, the Falcons may consider signing or trading for another receiver to strengthen their depth chart and prepare for potential injuries or underperformances.
