Falcons Hire: 'It's Bill Belichick's Job 'If He Wants It'; 50/50 Chance?
The Atlanta Falcons have engaged in multiple visits with ousted New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick, obviously demonstrating their level of desire for him to get involved.
What the Falcons do need: A turnaround coach, which is why Jim Harbaugh has also been atop their interview board.
What the Falcons do not need: A 71-year-old who is "half-in,'' which is why the report from CBS Sports that has Atlanta owner Arthur Blank "desperately" wanting Belichick to be the team's head coach, and that the job is his "if [Belichick] wants it." ... leaves but one issue.
A source also told CBS Sports that Belichick is still considering whether to accept the Atlanta position, and that it is currently "50/50 right now that he takes the job."
We don't read that with the same positivity others might. During his time in New England, Belichick earned a reputation for no-nonsense assertiveness and decisiveness, and he won six Super Bowl titles in part as a result.
And now, after a full week of evaluation - or really, maybe months of evaluation, because the writing has been on the Patriots wall for quite some time that he was done there - he can't make up his mind?
The Falcons have apparently made up theirs. Let's see of "assertive and decisive'' Bill Belichick can do the same.
