NFL Rumors: Kirk Cousins & Bill Belichick Both Headed to Falcons?

Is a new superstar duo of Bill Belichick and Kirk Cousins forming and headed to the Falcons?

The Atlanta Falcons are likely a quarterback away from making the playoffs, but could Kirk Cousins change that?

Cousins would be the most accomplished passer to suit up for Atlanta since Matt Ryan, and now, thanks to the rumored mutual interest between legendary head coach Bill Belichick and the Falcons, it could be possible that he leads the team to the playoffs as soon as next season.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and former New England Patriots and Coach Bill Belichick have been linked to the Atlanta Falcons in rumors.

Recently, there's been speculation that Cousins could follow Belichick to the Falcons, with OddsChecker predicting that he will sign a three-year deal with the team.

"What happens when Bill Belichick accepts the head coaching position in Atlanta? The Falcons go after Kirk Cousins to throw passes to Drake London, Bijan Robinson, and Kyle Pitts," OddsChecker wrote.

Belichick has interviewed for Atlanta’s vacant head coach role multiple times, and with a resume stacked with as many Super Bowls as his, it seems as though he has as good a chance as anyone at becoming the next head coach of the Falcons.

As for Cousins, before tearing his achilles in Week 8 of 2023, he was having a very successful individual season with the Minnesota Vikings. From a statistical standpoint, Cousins had thrown for over 291 yards per game, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions in eight starts.

Cousins is a four-time Pro Bowler and upcoming free agent who has expressed interest in playing for Belichick if he were to call.

“I'm not gonna turn down an opportunity to play with a future Hall of Fame coach,” Cousins said. “I have great respect for him as a coach, like everyone else in pro football.”

Based on Cousins’ recent statements regarding Belichick, it seems as though the two could play a significant role in turning the franchise around and making the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Regardless of whether or not Cousins comes to Atlanta, the Falcons must address the quarterback position this offseason, and the franchise's success in 2024 will likely fall on his shoulders, considering the talent already on the roster.
