Falcons' Kyle Pitts Teases Number Change After Kirk Cousins Signing

Kirk Cousins has signed with the Atlanta Falcons, which means either he or Kyle Pitts will have to move away from the No. 8.

The Atlanta Falcons have a new quarterback and his name is Kirk Cousins.

Cousins, 35, has worn No. 8 since 2014, but someone on the team already has that number ... his new top tight end Kyle Pitts.

During a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," longtime NFL analyst and insider Mike Florio claimed that Cousins was already communicating with Pitts about potentially taking his No. 8 jersey.

However, that "report" or "rumor" started by the NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk writer has since been shut down by the Falcons tight end.

“This actually is funny you guys come up with anything,” Pitts said in a quote tweet of the Florio video.

However, that doesn't mean there won't be a number change. Obviously, both players can't wear No. 8, but Pitts showed on social media that he is excited about having Cousins in Atlanta and even floated a change to No. 84, his jersey number at Florida.

Another possibility is Cousins changing to No. 12, the number he wore during the first two seasons of his career with Washington.

While Cousins can't officially sign until Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, teams can agree to deals with free agents verbally. Then, true conversations can begin about who will wear No. 8 and who will change the number on his chest.
