Mike Vrabel: Falcons New Coach? Insider Confirms Atlanta Interest

The Atlanta Falcons could look to hire former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.

The Atlanta Falcons continue to build their list for their head coaching job.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are interested in speaking with former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel.

The Titans parted ways with head coach Mike Vrabel, and he instantly became a candidate for the Falcons' job opening recently vacated by Arthur Smith. There are others in NFL circles who believe that Vrabel will be "in the mix" in Atlanta, namely Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.

"The Atlanta Falcons are another club that will have interest in Mike Vrabel," Schultz said. "(Owner) Arthur Blank, 81 years old, not interested in a rebuild. They won seven games this year. Obviously, they still have to make a long-term decision at quarterback, but when you think about that roster, there's a reason (general manager) Terry Fontenot is safe. He built a pretty good roster. There's a lot of talent, especially offensively at the skill positions."

The question may not be whether or not Atlanta is interested in Vrabel, but whether Vrabel is interested in Atlanta. It helps, however, that Vrabel's son Tyler recently signed a futures contract with the Falcons, so that could be somewhat of an incentive for the move.

"I think the Falcons will certainly be in the mix for Mike Vrabel," Schultz said. "Make no mistake, they will be interested and reach out to him. You have to wonder at some point, does Mike Vrabel decline some of these requests? There's going to be so much interest, he's really going to have his pick of the litter."

The Falcons finished with a record of 7-10 on the season, failing to reach the playoffs for the sixth straight season. Arthur Smith was let go as the Atlanta coach on Sunday night, and Vrabel's future in Nashville was axed on Tuesday.
