The Giants promoted rookie running back Jon Hilliman from their practice squad to their 53-man roster.

Hilliman, 5-foot-11, 216 pounds, was signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent in May and spent the summer with the team in training camp.

He finished second on the team in preseason rushing with 8 yards on 25 carries, with two rushing touchdowns, and caught six passes for 36 yards.

Hilliman, who played his college ball at Boston College and Rutgers, gives the Giants running backs corps some much-needed depth with Saquon Barkley (ankle) ailing.

To make room for him on the 53-man roster, theGians placed veteran receiver and special teams player Russell Shepard (sprained foot) on IR.
