Giants Signing Defensive Tackle Kobe Smith

New York adds more depth to the defensive line.

The New York Giants, who wrapped up their spring football work Wednesday, are signing defensive tackle Kobe Smith.

The 24-year-old Smith worked for the Giants on Thursday and also had a tryout with the Giants last spring. The 6-foot-2, 312-pound Smith played his college ball at South Carolina, where in four seasons, he recorded 84 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Smith went undrafted in 2020, signing as an undrafted free agent with the Titans, landing on their practice squad for a few weeks.

Smith signed with the Bucs on October 20, joining their practice squad, where he was teammates with Rakeem Nunez-Roches. He was waived on May 16, 2022, and later joined the Eagles, who waived him injured during the final training camp cutdown date, placing him on injured reserve, where he sat until September 8.

Smith then signed with the Falcons practice squad in October 2022. He was most recently with the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL, where he was placed on the reserve list in late March this year.

He has never played in a regular season game.

The Giants waived/injured WR Dre Miller to make room for Smith.

Smith gives the Giants some additional depth for the summer, as both D.J. Davidson (ACL) and A'Shawn Robinson (leg) were rehabbing their issues during the spring.
