Former Giants QB Davis Webb Launches Coaching Career

Davis Webb will join Sean Payton's staff in Denver as their quarterbacks coach.

According to an ESPN report, former New York Giants quarterback Davis Webb, an unrestricted free agent, will become the new quarterbacks coach on Sean Payton's Denver Broncos coaching staff.

The 28-year-old Webb, a third-round draft pick by the Giants in 2017, finally earned his first NFL start last year in the Giants' regular-season finale at Philadelphia. He went 23-of-40 for 168 yards and a touchdown in that game and ran for 41 yards on six carries in a 22-16 loss.

Before rejoining the Giants, Webb spent time in Buffalo with current head coach Brian Daboll when he was Buffalo's offensive coordinator. Webb was frequently lauded by both Daboll and quarterback Daniel Jones for his knowledge of the game and of the offensive system the team ran.

"I think Davis does a great job in preparation," Daboll said last month. "Even if he’s not playing, he does a really good job. I think he’s a valuable asset in the room to the other quarterbacks, to (quarterbacks coach) Shea (Tierney), to (offensive coordinator Mike) Kafka – he spends a lot of time studying – to the other guys. He’s the same every week. He’s a good resource to have in there."

In his new role with the Broncos, Webb will work with 34-year-old Russell Wilson, who had one of his worst seasons last year. Wilson completed just 60.5 percent of his pass attempts and threw 16 touchdowns, both career lows. He also tied a career-high in interceptions with 11.
