Giants Hire Michael Ghobrial as New Special Teams Coordinator

Ghobrial joins the Giants after spending three seasons with the Jets.

The New York Giants have hired New York Jets assistant special teams coach Michael Ghobrial as their new special teams coordinator role.

Ghobrial joined the Jets coaching staff when Robert Saleh was hired as the team's head coach in 2021. Before coming to the Jets, Ghobrial had been in the college ranks, most recently as the special teams coordinator for Washington in 2020 and in the same role for Hawaii in 2018-2019.

The Jets special teams finished third in NFL analyst Rick Gosselin's annual special teams ranking, behind the Texans and the Saints. The Jets had the league's best kickoff coverage average (15.4 yards) and the best opponent punting average (44.5 yards) while also tying with Dallas for the most field goals made (36 each).

In 2021, Ghobrial, along with Jets Special Teams Coordinator Brant Boyer and fellow Special Teams Assistant Leon Washington, oversaw a group that finished in the top five in both kickoff and punt return average that season despite using three different kickers and three different punters.

Ghobrial was named the special teams coordinator for the East team at the 2024 Shrine Bowl, a role he's still expected to fill.
