MetLife Stadium Set to Host FIFA World Cup '26 Finals

MetLife Stadium beat out Dallas in a bid to host the prestigious World Cup Finals.

A different kind of football is coming to MetLife Stadium in the summer of July 2026.

FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) has announced that the shared home of the New York Giants and New York Jets will host the World Cup 26 final on July 19, 2026, in what's being billed as "the biggest-ever World Cup."

MetLife Stadium, which in 2014 hosted the Super Bowl and in 2016 the Copa America Centenario, can set 82,500 fans. MetLife Stadium was chosen ahead of Dallas as the host of the final match.

Dallas and Atlanta will host the semi-finals; the third-place game will be played in Miami; and the quarter-final games will take place in Los Angeles, Kansas City, Miami, and Boston as part of the 16 cities across three countries chosen to host the games.

The 2026 World Cup tournament has been expanded for the first time since 1998, going from 32 teams to 48. Azteca Stadium in Mexico City will host the opening group game on June 11. The tournament lasts 39 days, ten more than the 2022 World Cup.

MetLife Stadium's artificial turf field is expected to be switched to natural grass to meet FIFA's regulations.
