The Jacksonville Jaguars made another young football player’s dream a reality, selecting Penn State’s Brenton Strange in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

For the 22-year-old, being selected in the second round came as little surprise but he was a little taken aback when it was Jacksonville who came calling.

“Yeah I expected to go in the second round, third round range but I didn’t know about the Jaguars at all,” Strange said.

“I didn’t talk to them much. It’s a blessing to be on this team. It’s a great team.”

When asked about the pre-draft process with the Jaguars, Strange explained that there was no communication between the two parties but that the excitement level still remains high as he makes his way to Duval County.

“We didn’t have any interviews, anything,” Strange said. “I didn’t have anything with them and it was surprising when I got the call but I’m thankful to be a part of this team. A lot of great players. Looking forward to getting to work with them.”

A massive part of the allure for a young tight end is getting the chance to work alongside Jags head coach Doug Pederson, who is known for getting the most out of that position and utilizing two tight end sets. For Strange, getting a chance to work with him and fellow Jaguar tight end Evan Engram is an opportunity that the 22-year-old beams at and looks forward to.

“Man, to be honest like I said I didn’t talk to Jacksonville at all so it was a big surprise for me,” Strange said.

“But when I saw Jacksonville’s number I knew that Coach [Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson] uses the tight ends just from watching over there. Everywhere he’s been he’s had some great tight ends and he knows how to use them so I’m very excited. Especially to learn from a guy like Evan Engram. I’ve been watching him since college. Takes bits and pieces from his game. He’s a great player so I’m excited to work with the coaches, players, everybody.”
