Hearing your name called in the first round of the NFL Draft is a dream for many young football players. For Oklahoma offensive tackle Anton Harrison, that dream was realized.

Sitting in the comfort of his home surrounded by close friends and family members eagerly awaiting the beginning of his NFL journey, Harrison beamed with excitement as the Jacksonville Jaguars made him their first selection.

“We had a good amount of people, like 20 to 30 people,” Harrison said in an interview with local media. “All family, close friends. It was a great night just being around people I know who support me and love me. It was real emotional being able to enjoy this moment with my family.”

Harrison made clear that while there was little surprise that he was taken in the 24-30 range, there were no expectations on which team would step up to the plate, making the Jacksonville selection a pleasant surprise.

“I’d say I definitely expected to go in this range,” Harrison told 1010XL’s Mia O’Brien. “It was something I was prepared for. I really just didn’t know who, but I’m definitely excited to be in Jacksonville.”

The prospect of teaming up with a franchise signal caller in Trevor Lawrence and an ascending Jaguars team was something that caught Harrison’s eye, quickly making note that he is glad to be a part of an organization with a shared mindset of winning.

“It’s great,” Harrison said. “I just see watching the games that everybody has that same mindset. They want to win. Trying to get to that Super Bowl. I’m glad to be a part of that thing and try to get to that goal with the guys.”
