Despite Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan saying in an interview on Thursday with Katherine Ross of TheStreet that he thinks disgruntled star cornerback Jalen Ramsey would play against the Saints, Ramsey has officially been ruled out for today's game with a back injury.

This marks the third consecutive game Ramsey has missed with the back injury. He entered Week 4 without missing a single NFL start since being drafted in 2016.

The team said ahead of the team's Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos that Ramsey had injured his back in a 20-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 19.

Following the Week 3 game vs. the Titans, Ramsey missed seven consecutive practices with an illness, the back injury and finally due to traveling to Nashville for the birth of his second child.

Ramsey returned to the practice field this week for the first time since the Titans game, practicing in a limited capacity on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The fourth-year cornerback has been in a public standoff with the Jaguars organization since he requested a trade following Jacksonville's Week 2 loss to the Houston Texans on Sept. 15.

Ramsey got into a public argument with head coach Doug Marrone on the sideline during the first quarter of the Texans game but the All-Pro cornerback later revealed on the Undefeated's 17 Weeks podcast that he requested the trade following comments made to him by a front office member in the locker room following the game.

Here are the rest of the Jaguars inactives for today's game:

  • WR C.J. Board
  • RB Tyler Ervin
  • LB Austin Calitro
  • OL Brandon Thomas
  • TE Josh Oliver
  • DT Dontavius Russell

Second-year cornerback Tre Herndon will start in Ramsey's place. This is Herndon's fourth start this season.
