One of Duval County’s finest opted to move further up along the east coast, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that tight end Dan Arnold has agreed to a one-year deal with the reigning NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.

First arriving in Jacksonville from a trade with the Carolina Panthers during the 2021 season, Arnold flourished immediately as a receiving option and security blanket for then rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence, amassing 60+ receiving yards in four of the last seven games of that season.

His role took a bit of a nosedive in the 2022 season with the addition of fellow tight end Evan Engram, finishing the campaign with only nine receptions for 135 yards on limited targets.

Despite the limited on-field production, Arnold was a massive contributor off of it, serving as a leader and veteran presence for a young up and coming Jaguars squad.

Arnold’s leadership value was not enough to warrant a re-signing, with the Jaguars opting to go younger at the position, selecting Penn State’s Brenton Strange in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

As for Arnold, the Philadelphia Eagles mark the fifth stop of his NFL career, having previously suited up for the Jaguars, Saints, Panthers, and Cardinals since entering in 2018.

Arnold is the second Jaguars tight end from the 2022 roster to depart in free agency this offseason, joining Chris Manhertz. Manhertz, signed by the Denver Broncos, and Arnold had the most reps behind Evan Engram in 2023, opening the door for an increased role for 2021 draft pick Luke Farrell and 2023 second-rounder Brenton Strange.
