Jaguars Sign Ex-Packers TE Josiah Deguara

The former Day 2 pick will now join Evan Engram, Brenton Strange, and Luke Farrell in the tight end room.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have added to their tight end room, signing former Green Bay Packers tight end Josiah Deguara on Thursday.

Deguara is the third pass-catcher the Jaguars have signed this offseason, following wide receivers Gabe Davis and Devin Duvernay. He is also the second former Packer they have signed, joining defensive back Darnell Savage.

Deguara was originally drafted by Green Bay in the third round (94th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Folsom, Calif. native has played in 50 games across four seasons with the Packers and recorded 47 receptions for 436 yards and two touchdowns. He played collegiately at the University of Cincinnati (2015-19), where he appeared in 46 games and posted 92 receptions for 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns. In his final season as a Bearcat, he earned first-team All AAC honors.

Deguara played in 15 games last year, catching eight passes for 65 yards. He developed into a core piece of the Packers' special teams unit as well, playing 551 special teams snaps over the last three seasons.

Deguara will be joining a tight end room that currently consists of Evan Engram, second-year tight end Brenton Strange, and fourth-year veteran Luke Farrell.

"Brenton is another tight end that we got to find ways to get on the field and create some matchups," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said this week.

"We like what he did last year for us and we can now build upon that. I think that tight end room is a strong room, even with Luke [TE Luke Farrell] in there. There’s depth and there’s stability which you’ve got to have.”
