One of the scariest moments of the entire 2019 NFL season took place during the final quarter of the Jacksonville Jaguars 13-6 loss to the New Orleans on Sunday.

Jaguars tight end Geoff Swaim was targeted on a short intermediate pass and was immediately hit by the shoulder of Saints linebacker Demario Davis. Swaim went down awkwardly and was quickly attended to by trainers after the nasty hit, which earned Davis an unnescary roughness penalty.

The hit landed Swaim in concussion protocol, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said on Monday. Following the game, Davis commented on the play and gave his best wishes to Swaim.

“First of all, I want to say my thoughts and prayers to Geoff Swaim. I know he was able to walk off the field, but you don’t know what the residuals are of something like that," Davis said. "That’s very unfortunate so my prayers are with him and I hope he heals up well and recovers from that."

Davis reacted similarly during the game, taking a knee near Swaim and lowering his head in prayer for the injured player. The linebacker said after the game he was not trying to commit a dirty play and the hit was simply a result of the dangerous game that is professional football.

"Unfortunately, it’s a part of our game. It’s a bang-bang league and sometimes those hits do happen and we don’t like them," Davis said. "It’s just an unfortunate bang-bang play that just happened when we collided and I guess he came up on the bad end of it. My prayers and thoughts are with him.”

With Swaim in concussion protocol, the Jaguars currently have two healthy tight ends on the active roster who have played snaps this season in Seth DeValve and Ben Koyack. The two have a combined one reception for 16 yards, which DeValve hauled in against the Saints.
