Jaguars Add Void Years to Brandon Scherff's Deal, Save $5 Million in 2024 Cap

The Jaguars are saving some money in the immediate period.

The numbers are out on Brandon Scherff's re-worked deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It was announced earlier this week the two sides were closing in on a re-negotiated contract, likely as a way to keep Scherff in town for 2024 as opposed to cutting ties for cap reasons.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are effectively saving $5 million in cap space on the new deal. The deal also fully guarantees Scheff's deal for 2024, while adding three more void years to his contract.

The Jaguars signed Scherff to a three-year, $49.5 million contract with $30 million in guarantees in 2022.

Scherff has started all 34 regular season games since signing with the Jaguars two offseasons ago, along with starting two playoff games. He has also been voted an offensive captain in back-to-back seasons.

With Scherff and left guard Ezra Cleveland set to return, the Jaguars seem to have both guard and both tackle positions secured for the 2024 season. This leaves the center position as the only one that could see potential change.

"If you think about it, Cam [OL Cam Robinson], Ezra, Luke [OL Luke Fortner], Brandon [OL Brandon Scherff] and Ton [OL Anton Harrison] played one game together. Last game of the regular season," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said last week.

"We’ve had that revolving door on the left side for whatever reason; injury, performance, whatever it might be. Cam, the suspension, and the injury late in the season, he missed eight games. We didn’t have consistency; we didn’t have continuity. That affects five guys up front. That’s what we have to get back to, we have to get back to a little bit more consistency there but we can also help them as coaches and prepare them better. I know we will starting this offseason.”
