Jamal Agnew on Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley: ‘I Don’t Think Anybody Can Guard Him in the League’

It’s only been a few weeks of practice but Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley has already shown glimpses of what has made him a premier talent in the NFL.

For his Jacksonville Jaguars teammates, this display of dominance is certainly something they are glad to have on their side of the field. Count Jaguars wide receiver Jamal Agnew among the many that are impressed with Duval County’s newest receiving threat.

“Just the way he moves you can see,” Agnew relayed to talkSPORT2 last week. “His route running, he can run, catch anything you throw to him, he’s just different man. You can just watch him out there, he’s a mismatch nightmare. In my opinion, I don’t think anybody can guard him in the league.”

Looking at Ridley’s numbers with the Atlanta Falcons, it is easy to understand why he generates so much excitement. In three of his four full seasons, the 28-year-old has recorded no fewer than 800 receiving yards, with a 1,374-yard breakout campaign in 2020 highlighting the impact that the talented wideout has as a top option in a team’s passing attack.

Adding Ridley to a Jaguars offense that is returning all of its key contributors from a playoff-level offense last season should only add another level of danger to an already potent unit. If Ridley comes in and can make an immediate impact as a top option, the sky is the limit for what this offense can achieve, especially with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the driver's seat.

With his contract pausing through the suspension, Ridley did not cost the Jaguars anything in 2022. He is set to play on the fifth year of his rookie contract in 2023, worth $11.116 million.

The Jaguars traded for Ridley with a 2023 fifth-round pick and a conditional 2024 pick. The 2024 pick will be at least a fourth-rounder if Ridley makes the team. If he hits a play-time milestone, it’ll be a third-rounder. But, if the Jaguars are able to get a long-term deal done, it will be a second-rounder.
