Pete Prisco: Rumblings Jaguars' Trent Baalke May 'Walk Away'

This seems unlikely, but it is straight from former Jaguars reporter Pete Prisco.

For the last four seasons, there have been few people who have been bigger or more influential than general manager Trent Baalke. And by all accounts, Baalke will be at the helm for the Jaguars for the foreseeable future.

On CBS Sports Pick Six Podcast, former Jaguars reporter and current CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco floated a rumor that this could be more short-term than some think.

"There are rumblings that maybe he is going to walk away, but I don't know if that's true," Prisco said.

"That's -- I mean, there's, retire maybe, I don't know. Who knows. But I can't imagine he leaves that job," Prisco said when asked by the host about the rumor. T

This is obviously a less-than-concrete report, but considering it is coming from a long-time Jaguars insider who has had a pulse on the organization for its entire history, it is at least worth monitoring.

It doesn't make much sense for Baalke to not be the Jaguars general manager in 2024. Baalke is well-respected by Jaguars owner Shad Khan and there have been no indications that Baalke is going anywhere anytime soon, whether by his own decision or by Khan's.

Baalke has been the Jaguars' general manager since the 2021 offseason, though he was interim general manager in 2020 after Dave Caldwell was fired. Baalke was brought into the organization in 2020 as the Director of Player Personnel.

Before being hired by the Jaguars, Baalke spent time as a football operations consultant for the NFL league office. From 2011-2016, he was the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers.
