Report: Jaguars Sign Former 49ers DL Arik Armstead

The Jaguars just made a big improvement to the middle of their defensive line.

The Jacksonville Jaguars just made a major splash.

According to multiple reports, the Jaguars are set to sign ex-San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Arik Armstead. Per Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz, it is a three-year, $51 million deal, making Armstead the No. 14 defensive tackle in average annual value.

Armstead, who was drafted in the first round by Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke in San Francisco in 2015, has spent the last nine seasons with the 49ers.

Armstead only appeared in 12 regular season games last year due to injuries, though he still finished with five sacks and nearly 60 pressures.

In nine seasons, Armstead started 97 games and appeared in 116, recording 33.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, and 88 quarterback hits.

"Well, when you can’t run the football and later in the year, you can’t stop the run, that’s a problem in the National Football League. We’ve always prided ourselves on being able to do that; run the football, stop the run. For whatever reason, we weren’t able to do that," Baalke said in January.

"I think there’s a lot of moving parts to that. I don’t think it’s just player related, I don’t think it’s just scheme related. We’ve got to get bigger, we’ve got to get stronger, we’ve got to get more physical in the trenches. If you want to compete for championships, you have to do that. I think we’ve got some good pieces in there, we have some good young players in there, but we have to get beter.”
