Report: Jaguars to Attend Colin Kaepernick’s Workout for NFL Teams
A few hours after the NFL announced 11 teams had committed to attend a workout set up by the NFL for quarterback Colin Kaepernick in Atlanta on Saturday, a local report has added another team to the crowd who will be there in person to see the embattled passer.
According to Brent Martineau, sports director at CBS47/FOX30 and host of ESPN690AM in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be represented at the workout. Jacksonville was not previously named as a team attending the workout.
Jacksonville currently has Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew II, and Josh Dobbs as its rostered quarterbacks.
"We are looking forward to Saturday's workout with Colin," the NFL said in a statement Thursday. "Eleven teams -- Arizona, Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Miami, New England, New York Giants, New York Jets, Tampa Bay, and Washington -- have already committed to attend, and it's only Thursday. With two days remaining until the workout, we expected additional teams to commit. Former NFL head coach Hue Jackson will lead the drills, and former NFL head coach Joe Philbin will be in attendance as well. We will send video of the workout and interview to all 32 teams, including head coaches and general managers."
Kaepernick has not played since he was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. The quarterback garnered controversy that season when he began sitting and then ultimately kneeling during the playing of the national anthem before games in protest of police brutality and racial inequality.
Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL in 2017 after claiming the league was colluding to keep him out of the NFL. Since becoming a free agent following the 2016 season, Kaepernick has not had an official workout for any NFL team, though he did take a visit with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017.
Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone was asked Friday afternoon if the Jaguars would have a representative at the workout and said he did not know about it.
“I don’t know anything about it," Marrone said. "I have no idea, that’s scouting. You have to ask someone else to speak on that or ask me and then I can go ask them if I can say it. Really, I don’t even know”
