WATCH: New York Jets fantasy outlook for Week 2 vs. Cleveland Browns

Start/Sit advice for your favorite New York Jets players in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns.

For most NFL fans, drafting a player from your favorite team is all a part of the fantasy football experience and for the most part, a few New York Jets players could put up quality fantasy numbers during the 2019 season. The rest of the bunch, however, are looking like matchup-dependent plays based on the team’s Week 1 performance against the Buffalo Bills and things won’t get any easier this weekend.

The Cleveland Browns have more than enough talent in every phase of the game to be a matchup nightmare for certain Jets fantasy players. With that in mind, here’s the fantasy outlook for each Jets player for Week 2.

Key Stats to Keep in Mind

  • Cleveland has allowed 339 total yards per game this season (No. 10 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland has allowed 123 yards rushing per game this season (No. 22 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland has allowed 216 yards passing per game this season (No. 12 in the NFL).
  • Opponents have completed 20 percent of deep passes against Cleveland this season.
  • Opponents have completed just one deep pass against Cleveland this season.
  • Opponents have completed 62 percent of short passes against Cleveland this season.
  • Cleveland has allowed 62 yards receiving to tight ends this season (No. 11 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland has allowed 105 yards receiving to wide receivers this season (No. 4 in the NFL)
  • Cleveland has allowed four receptions to opposing running backs this season (No. 12 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland has allowed 81 yards receiving to running backs this season (No. 28 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland averages 298.6 total yards on offense per game in 2018 (No. 30 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland averages 174.6 yards passing per game in 2019 (No. 31 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland averages 124 yards rushing per game in 2018 (No. 9 in the NFL).
  • Cleveland averages 16.8 points per game in 2018 (No. 30 in the NFL).

Must-Starts

RB Le’Veon Bell

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: RB7

FanDuel: $7,900

DraftKings: $7,600

Adam Gase didn’t hold back in his usage of Bell against Buffalo last weekend, keeping the two-time All-Pro on the field for all 66 of New York’s offensive plays. The 27-year-old took complete advantage of his snap count, totaling 23 touches (17 rushing attempts, six receptions) for 92 yards from scrimmage (60 yards rushing, 32 yards receiving) and a touchdown. Fantasy owners should expect Bell at a similar workload against Cleveland (especially since Sam Darnold is on the shelf), making him an elite fantasy play against a Browns defense that struggles to contain running backs.

WR Jamison Crowder (PPR Only)

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: WR32 (PPR)

FanDuel: $6,200

DraftKings: $4,700

Crowder had a huge fantasy day against Buffalo in Week 1, catching 14 passes for 99 yards receiving on a whopping 17 targets on the afternoon. The 26-year-old wideout has clearly established himself as the go-to receiver in New York’s offense and could be in for a good day against the Browns stop unit that’s allowed a 62 percent completion percentage on short passes this year. While another 17-target outing is unlikely, Crowder should still see more than enough volume to be PPR-relevant for the second consecutive week.

Boom-or-Bust

WR Robby Anderson

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: WR38

FanDuel: $6,000

DraftKings: $4,900

The positive: Anderson saw a respectable seven targets against the Bills last Sunday. The negative: he hauled in just three of those targets for 23 yards receiving (long of nine). Anderson will likely be shadowed by Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward Monday, who has the speed to match the 26-year-old deep-threat step for step. Anderson may matchup with another defensive back on certain plays, however, giving him WR3 upside if he can beat his man deep.

Start at Your Own Risk

D/ST NY Jets

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: DST19

FanDuel: $3,800

DraftKings: $2,600

Cleveland mustered just 13 points last week, but their offense is a lot more dangerous than their Week 1 output may indicate. The potential for a solid fantasy day is diminished now that C.J. Mosley isn't suiting up. There are much safer options available on the waiver wire, but in the rare case that nothing is, the Jets could be worth a desperation flier.

RB Ty Montgomery (PPR)

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: RB64

FanDuel: $4,600

DraftKings: $3,200

Adam Gase made it abundantly clear that Ty Montgomery may not have as big of a role on offense as we expected, as he saw the field on just five offensive plays against the Bills. However, in the wake of Le’Veon Bell’s shoulder injury, Montgomery’s could become fantasy relevant if Gase decides to limit the former’s workload. Fantasy owners are in an interesting position here because the Jets play on Monday night and there could be better players to start on Sunday. However, if you’re just that confident that Bell will be limited, Montgomery is worth a speculative start.

Avoid This Week

QB Trevor Siemian

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: QB32

FanDuel: $6,000

DraftKings: $4,000

Siemian was tabbed as the Jets’ starting QB now that Sam Darnold is out indefinitely with mononucleosis, but fantasy owners shouldn’t even think about starting him. Cleveland has a talented young secondary (despite what its 43-13 loss in Week 1 may imply) and should pose a challenge for Siemian, who hasn’t started a game since Week 14 of the 2017 season.

WR Demaryius Thomas

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: WR108

FanDuel: $4,700

DraftKings: $3,400

The upside is definitely there down the line, but until he gets reacclimated to Adam Gase’s offense, fantasy owners should avoid starting Thomas unless they’re incredibly desperate.

TE Ryan Griffin

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: TE35

FanDuel: $4,000

DraftKings: $2,600

Griffin was a non-factor (three receptions, 10 yards receiving) against the Bills and is probably a tertiary option for Sam Darnold until Chris Herndon returns. Fantasy owners would be better off finding a different streaming option on the waiver wire.

K Sam Ficken

FantasyPros Week 2 Ranking: K31

FanDuel: N/A

DraftKings: N/A

Ficken was just signed off the street and while he had a good preseason with the Green Bay Packers, the Jets don’t know what they have in him just yet. Finding a better streaming option on the waiver wire would be a better move for the time being.

No Fantasy Relevance Until Proven Otherwise

QB Sam Darnold (Mononucleosis)

WR Josh Bellamy

WR Braxton Berrios

TE/FB Trevon Wesco

RB Bilal Powell

RB Trent Cannon

TE Chris Herndon IV (Suspended)

WR Quincy Enunwa (Season-Ending IR)
