Gauging the potential of all 4 Jets waiver additions

Jets GM Joe Douglas continued his roster shuffling on Sunday, as the team was awarded four players on waivers.

After an eventful Saturday, New York Jets GM Joe Douglas did some more roster maneuvering. In an effort to find the final pieces to the puzzle, the team announced four waiver additions on Sunday, waiving WR Greg Dortch, S Doug Middleton, K Taylor Bertolet and releasing LB Albert McClellan in corresponding moves.

Meet the newest New York Jets:

WR Braxton Berrios

The 5-foot-9, 190-pound receiver was originally a sixth-round draft choice of the New England Patriots in 2018. The former Miami Hurricane spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve, earning a Super Bowl ring in the process. 

The diminutive wideout fell victim to a numbers game on Saturday, despite putting together a stellar summer. Regarded as one of the nation's top punt returners in college, Berrios is the likely choice to shoulder punt return duties this season. 

The shifty slot receiver is a fairly polished product, and could potentially earn a few looks on offense in 2019.

DL John Franklin-Myers

A fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams last season, Franklin-Myers was among my top waiver wire targets. It's not often you land a healthy, 6-foot-4, 288-pound prospect -- with draft pedigree and production -- for essentially nothing. 

The 22-year-old appeared in all 16 games for the Rams last season, totaling 10 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Franklin-Myers becomes the ninth defensive lineman on the 53-man roster, so it's unclear how he fits, but he has the talent to carve out a role of defense fairly early.

K Kaare Vedvik

The 25-year-old journeyman began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2018. Vedvik was placed on Baltimore's reserve/non-football injury list prior to the start of the season, due to head injuries from an assault. 

He was traded to the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 11, for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The big-legged kicker was ultimately released two weeks later, which led him to his third team in the past month. 

Vedvik, who has drawn significant interest from teams in his short stay in the NFL, will be the Jets' opening day kicker.

S Bennett Jackson

The well-traveled defensive back was originally a sixth-round pick of the New York Giants in 2014. The Hazlet, NJ native has yet to appear in an NFL game, but is known for his versatility and special teams prowess. 

As the fifth safety, Jackson will likely begin the season as a weekly inactive.
