WATCH: Jets' Jamal Adams emphatically states 'There’s no forgetting about Marcus Maye'

Adams is happy the fellow safety is healthy and ready to return to action

After missing 10 games last season due to injuries, Jets safety Marcus Maye is hungry to get back on the field in 2019. Fellow safety Jamal Adams expects Maye to quickly remind the rest of the league of his capabilities.

Maye was placed on injured reserved in December due to shoulder and thumb injuries and didn't participate in team portions of OTAs and minicamps. While it was disappointing, Maye remained an active presence on the sidelines.

“You just have to be smart and practice like a professional, know the situations, play the game between your ears more,” Maye said back in June to New York Jets.com. “But once I get out there and get the green light, I’m definitely going to go.”

Now that Maye is cleared for contact, Adams feels grateful to have his "rib" back alongside him.

“He’s a playmaker, man. There’s no forgetting about Marcus Maye,” Adams said to New York Jets.com. “He’s a guy that can make plays on the ball. He’s the best, if not one of the best free safeties in the league. And I’m definitely humbled to share the field with him and call him a friend, call him a brother. He’s going to be fine and he’s going to make plays.”

During his rookie campaign in 2017, Maye was fourth on the Jets in tackles (76) and tallied two interceptions. In 2018, Maye amassed 33 tackles, 0.5 sacks and an interception.

Jets coach Adam Gase envisions the tandem of Adams and Maye being a potent duo for opposing offenses to contend with this season.

“I know Marcus does have the ability to both play in the post, down, he could go and play nickel if you asked him to," Gase said to New York Jets.com. "His flexibility is great, and that's what you're looking for in a position like that.”
