Cam Sutton Charged With Single Misdemeanor

Sutton appeared in court Monday.

Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cam Sutton faces one count of misdemeanor domestic battery after appearing in a Florida court Monday.

Sutton turned himself into the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office late Sunday and was released Monday on his own recognizance.

The former Lion was wanted for his alleged involvement in an incident that occured March 7 in Lutz, Florida. Police responded to a call early in the morning of a domestic violence incident that had occurred, but Sutton fled the scene and officers had been unable to contact him.

Sutton released a statement Monday, via his attorneys Jason Stechen and Todd Foster.

"On March 31, Mr. Cameron Sutton voluntarily turned himself into the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Offiice. On April 1, 2024, he was released on his own recognizance," the statement read. "After completing an investigation into this matter, the Office of the State Attorney has elected to file a single misdemeanor. Both Mr. Sutton and the mother of his children request privacy in this matter, as they view it as a family matter and wish to resolve it as a family."

On March 20, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office posted a message on social media asking for assistance in locating Sutton. The Lions learned of this while Sutton was at the team's Allen Park facility working out with the strength and conditioning staff.

The Lions encouraged Sutton to turn himself in and seek legal counsel. They released him from the roster the next day.

According to court records, the alleged incident took place one day after Sutton had a Zoom hearing in a paternity case.

Sutton was released, but the Lions have made multiple moves at the cornerback position this offseason. The team acquired Carlton Davis in a trade with the Buccaneers and signed free agent Amik Robertson.
