Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Prediction for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 23rd

Heading into this NFC North bout, Green Bay sits at 4-6 and is still alive for a Wild Card spot if they have a remarkable finish. Their defense has been their strong suit, as they rank seventh in the league in passing yards allowed per game at just 193.2, and 10th in points surrendered (20.2). Offensively, though, the Packers are 19th or worse in the NFL in most statistical categories, including yards per game (21st, 319.6) and points scored (20th, 20.2).

On the flip side, this Detroit team has centered around their offensive firepower, ranking top six in the league in yards per game (339.6) and points scored (27.2). Their defensive numbers overall are solid, but they’ve now allowed 26+ points in back-to-back games and appear to be possibly reverting back to their old ways.

Divisional matchups can be tough to decode, as evidenced by Detroit’s come-from-behind, narrow victory over the last-place Chicago Bears on Sunday. Add in the fact that Green Bay has won two of their last three, and we’ll stay away from the spread in this one. Instead, our focus regarding our Packers vs. Lions prediction sits with the game total.

Packers vs. Lions Best Bets & Free Picks

Green Bay looked solid on offense last time out, but it’s important to note that they were facing one of the NFL’s worst defenses in the Chargers, specifically against the pass. Jordan Love had arguably his best game as a pro, but he should come down to life a bit in this one. In the Packers’ first game against the Lions this season, Love tossed two interceptions and sported a passer rating of just 69.9.

As for Detroit, it took essentially the whole game for them to figure things out on offense against the Bears last week, and this is a similar defense regarding talent level. While we can’t count on Jared Goff throwing three picks again, he now has more this season than he did all of last. He even threw one against the Pack last time they played. The Lions should be looking to the ground game early and often, and even if they find success, the clock will continue to churn.

There were 54 combined points between these two squads in the first meeting back on September 28, but these are almost completely new teams from that point. We don’t have much faith in this Green Bay offense against a solid Detroit defense, and the Packers defense should be up to the task of limiting the Lions offense. With a 5-1 record in Green Bay’s last six games, our Packers vs. Lions prediction will side with the under 47.5 (-112 at DraftKings).

Aaron Jones Injury Update: Will he Play on Thanksgiving?

During last week’s victory over the Chargers, RB Aaron Jones exited the game and did not return due to a knee injury. His status for this week is very much in doubt after posting a DNP at practice on Monday, which would be a significant hit to Green Bay’s chances in this one. Don’t forget that you can become a DraftKings member before kickoff to qualify for a $150+ sign-up bonus.
