Watch: Pettine on Bye-Week Findings

Bill Huber

What did Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine take away from the bye week?

The full answer is in the video but here's a bit of what he said:

"It was good being able to just kind of sit back and look at different perspectives and see it all together. I thought there were some good things to come out of it at all positions. The big thing for us is just raising our level of consistency"

Usually we see injuries equate to a poor defense but Pettine has literally no excuses. I will be shocked if they give up fewer than 400 yards

We'll see. Huge week here, obviously. When they played the Lions, Raiders and Chiefs after byes/mini-byes, he spoke to their obvious advantages in terms of scheme, preparation, rest and health. He finally has that advantage. Defense has underperformed, for sure, but - as I've said for most of my 12 years on the beat - only two things really truly matter. That is points allowed and takeaways. From those perspectives, the defense is just fine.
