Packers-Chiefs Injury Report: Adams Takes Step Forward

Davante Adams didn’t practice on Wednesday but he at least took part in the opening warmups – a first since suffering a toe injury in the fourth quarter against Philadelphia on Sept. 26.

After going through the stretching and opening calisthenics, Adams headed into the Don Hutson with a trainer and a couple pairs of shoes.

Adams has been ruled out on the Friday before the last three games against Dallas, Detroit and Oakland. It could be a different story for Sunday night’s game against Kansas City.

“I think it could go right up to game time, to be truthful,” coach Matt LaFleur said. “I’m not quite sure where we're at right there with him right now.”

The Packers are 3-0 without Adams but, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, “17’s a different animal. He’s a different type of player. He’s such a dynamic athlete, great route-runner, and then he holds himself to this standard of really not coming off the field ever.”

Adams was the only player not to practice.

Safety Darnell Savage, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury sustained at Dallas on Oct. 6, was full participation. Whether that’s a sign he could be ready to face the Chiefs on Sunday night remains to be seen, because Wednesday’s practice was about as low-stress as possible. The team didn’t even wear helmets for a series of jog-through periods. As he has done all season, LaFleur has stressed the mental over the physical in hopes of being as fresh and as healthy as possible for the games. With a 6-1 record, it’s hard to quibble with that approach.

“I think you've got to trust what you see,” LaFleur said. “You've got to trust the people around you, the medical staff, trust your players. This time of the year, you’re going to have some injuries, some bumps and bruises that people are fighting through. But ultimately, at the end of the day, you want your players fresh for Sunday. So, I used it as more of an above-the-neck type day where they’re focusing on the details of the plan. I thought our guys approached it well.”

For the Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes practiced but two key defensive starters, defensive end Frank Clark and defensive tackle Chris Jones, were out.
