GREEN BAY, Wis. – The NFL’s ultimate winner, legendary quarterback Tom Brady, announced his retirement “for good” on Wednesday, leaving Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers the most-accomplished passer still playing in the NFL.

“I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first,” Brady said in a 53-second video on Twitter. “I won't be longwinded. You only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year, so really thank you guys so much to every single one of you for supporting me. …

“Thank you, guys, for letting me live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. I love you all.”

Brady was a seven-time Super Bowl champion and three-time NFL MVP. He owns most of the NFL’s passing records, including yards (89,214; 8,856 more than Drew Brees) and touchdowns (649; 78 more than Brees).

With Brady’s retirement, Rodgers is the NFL’s new active leader with 475 touchdown passes, 94 more than runner-up Matt Ryan. Ryan is No. 1 with 62,792 passing yards, about a season’s worth of yards ahead of Rodgers’ 59,055.

The numbers are staggering but Brady’s career will be defined by an absurd level of winning. He went 251-82 in the regular season and 35-13 in the playoffs, a combined record of 286-95. It took until Brady’s 23rd and final season to post a losing record, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the NFC South despite their 8-9 record in 2022.

Brady won more playoff games than all but New England (he was responsible for most of the Patriots’ 37 postseason wins), Green Bay, San Francisco, Dallas and Pittsburgh have 36.

Brady won five of his eight career games against the Packers, including a 3-2 mark during his infrequent games against Rodgers. Their last matchup came in Week 3 of this past season, with Green Bay winning 14-12 when De’Vondre Campbell broke up Brady’s two-point pass in the final moments.

Here are those games.
