Pair of Broncos WRs Remain in Rumor Mill; Is Carolina a Destination?

More options for Carolina on the way?

With Mike Evans returning to Tampa Bay on a two-year deal and Michael Pittman Jr. likely signing an extension with Indianapolis, the free agent wide receiver market isn't as attractive as it once was.

That could change soon, though.

According to a report from uStadium, Broncos receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton could be on their way out of Denver. The report suggests Jeudy would likely be moved via trade, if possible.

These two have been rumored to be on the move for quite some time, but with the recent release of Russell Wilson, Denver may finally decide to move on and hit the reset button.

Jeudy is entering the final year of his rookie deal (5th-year option) while Sutton has two years remaining with an average annual salary of $13.2 million. I don't believe the Panthers would be willing to trade for either player considering the lack of draft picks/tradable assets at their disposal but if either hits the open market, it would be worth looking into.

Of course, all of this comes down to money and GM Dan Morgan won't force the signing or a trade of a wide receiver just to say they added to the room. It has to happen organically. A large contract is not something they're willing to take on at this point in time, nor should they. I'd imagine Jeudy will be the cheaper option of the two, but with it being a deep wide receiver draft class, they'd probably be better off double dipping in the draft.

Plus, you have to wonder how much Morgan values the opinion of his former teammate, Steve Smith Sr. who labeled Jeudy as "just a guy." Jeudy, of course, felt some sort of way by Smith's comments. Before Denver's game with Washington, Smith Sr. got his feelings about it off his chest.

"The word that I've used in the past to describe him is a JAG - 'Just a Guy'. And so, when I saw him, he's playing well and I wanted to say to him face to face like hey, I know I said some things in the past that I probably shouldn't have and I'm sorry. That's what I wanted to say to him. His response was 'I don't mess with you'. So I'll say it again, I'm sorry that I said you were a JAG, who is an average wide receiver that they used a first-round pick on that isn't doing anything. I actually hope that you show up today in a way that you haven't showed up in the last couple years since they drafted you. So if you ever got a problem with Agent 89, I'm sorry for saying that you're an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on [from]."
