Yetur Gross-Matos Agrees to Terms with 49ers

The Panthers lose another piece of the defense.

At this point, you almost wonder if Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is regretting staying put rather than taking a DC gig elsewhere. Kidding, of course, but he's going to have his hands full in 2024 with all of the departures his unit has seen in just the first day of the legal tampering period.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos is signing a two-year, $18 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Gross-Matos was a second-round pick of the Panthers in 2020 out of Penn State and struggled to really develop into a quality pass rusher. Over the last two years though, YGM has turned the corner and become a well-rounded role player. In 2022, he tallied 54 tackles, 10 QB hits, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.

Last offseason, he was asked to move from defensive end in a 4-3 to outside linebacker in Ejiro Evero's 3-4 scheme - a position he had never played...ever. Considering the circumstances, he had a pretty successful transition and recorded 36 tackles, 10 QB hits, seven tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
