Ex NFL Head Coach 'Embarrassed' by New England Patriots' Icon Bill Belichick at Coaching Clinic

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has seen it all, and it didn't take for Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule to realize that.

Few people know more about the game of football than former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

That knowledge was on full display when he met with former Carolina Panthers head coach and current Nebraska Cornhuskers head football coach Matt Rhule and his staff on Friday for a coaching clinic. Rhule said the meeting with just the coaches lasted over four hours before the clinic, and Belichick left him feeling humbled.

"He is so smart [and] has seen so much that he can make the complex so simple that it humbles you and embarrasses you," Rhule said. "I was embarrassed yesterday listening to him [and] how smart he is and how simple it was. He went four and a half hours with just the coaches."

Rhule added: "Just sitting there and talking and his recall from 15 years ago. The only reason we don't get through more information is because he's having to slow down to make sure you understand what he's saying."

Belichick also attended a Washington Huskies practice last week. His son, Steve Belichick, is the defensive coordinator and former assistant Jedd Fisch is entering his first season as their head coach.

Belichick, 71, has been in the NFL as a coach since 1975. During that run, he has won eight Super Bowls with two coming as the New York Giants' defensive coordinator and six as the Patriots' head coach. Across his 29 seasons as a head coach for New England and the Cleveland Browns, he's 333-178 including the playoffs.

While there's no disputing how smart Belichick is, it's still a sight to behold when a former NFL head coach like Rhule is singing his praises. It also raises questions about whether he'll be returning to an NFL sideline in some capacity this or next season.

Regardless, for now, Belichick seems more than content to spread his knowledge to coaches in the college ranks while he waits for the right opportunity to eventually come along.
