What could he do here as a slot receiver? Renfrow's large cap hit ($13 million) made this idea a poor one before. But depending on his price tag now, he could be a piece of the puzzle for the new-look Patriots.
New England is in the middle of a wideout makeover. We've seen the re-signing receiver Kendrick Bourne to a three-year, $33 million deal, the cutting receiver DeVante Parker, and the speculation about Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, who has reportedly requested a trade after he was franchise-tagged by Cincinnati.
And Ridley is trying to find a big payday in a market that does not seem very robust.
Ridley will turn 30 on his new deal. He is a premium talent, and worth the tug-of-war with the Jags. But if the market is "not robust''? That also makes a player like Renfrow possibly budget-friendly - without having to tug so hard on that rope.
