Former New England Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest was charged with felony assault in March relating to a December incident that took place in a Los Angeles restaurant. ... featuring video that appears to show him beating a man over the head with a bottle.

McGinest was charged with one felony account of assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of assault by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury. And now he has his official response ...

According to TMZ, McGinest has decided to plead "not guilty'' to all charges. That is a notable twist given that McGinest eventually issued a public apology, saying that he felt bad about his actions in the restaurant and indicating that he is willing to take full responsibility for the incident.

That apology obviously wasn't satisfactory to the alleged victim, who filed a A lawsuit claiming that the former linebacker started the brawl after the person made a remark about Utah having beaten USC - McGinest's old school - in the Pac-12 championship game.

Video from the restaurant at the time of the incident appears to show McGinest and others striking the man, with the former Patriots standout appearing to hit the man over the head with a bottle.

McGinest worked at the NFL Network prior to the incident but was suspended from the network shortly after his arrest, and he's yet to re-appear on network in this calendar year.
