Raiders Hoping to Continue Making Progress

The Las Vegas Raiders aren't where they want to be, but this season can prove they are at least headed in the right direction.

In this story:

The Las Vegas Raiders have nearly an entirely different coaching staff than last season. They will also enter next season with a vastly different look on the field as the Raiders continue to build their roster through the NFL Draft and free agency.

With so many new additions, hope for a higher quality team across the board will be the expectation for the Silver and Black next season.

When the Raiders fired Josh McDaniels, they did so, hoping to see a change from the players in the locker room and on the field. Firing McDaniels and promoting Raiders coach Antonio Pierce got about as positive of a reaction and response from the players on the roster, verbally and on the field. The Raiders would finish 5-4 under Pierce before he eventually became the team’s permanent head coach.

The Raiders are just weeks away from General Manager Tom Telesco’s decision on what to do with the 13th overall pick. It will be one of his first marquee moves, which the Raiders hope will lead them back to at least playoff contention. As much as every team would like to have a shot at the championship game, realistically, the Raiders can show they have made progress as a team and coaching staff.

The Raiders have quietly constructed one of the best rosters in the AFC West, one of the best divisions in the league. A team can show progress in many ways. They can do so by performing well on the field or getting off to a hot start when the season starts, or they could show progress in more minor ways, such as improving on an area the team struggled with last season.

There are 32 teams in the NFL, and only one wins the Super Bowl every year. The Raiders' progress cannot be determined by whether or not they win the Super Bowl or make a deep playoff run; they must show progress in their own way.

They have already done so by adding quality players and continuing to work with all the new team additions. However, the Raiders will need to continue finding ways to get better this offseason if they hope to finish next season differently than last season.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
