Michael Penix Could be the Move for the Raiders

The Raiders have plenty of options for who to draft with the 13th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. If the draft shakes out a certain way, Michael Penix could be the move for the Raiders.

In this story:

The Las Vegas Raiders have spent the offseason filling holes on their roster with serviceable talent at a relatively conservative cost to the team. General Manager Tom Telesco has done such a good job filling out the roster that it is tough to get an idea of which way he and the Raiders are genuinely leaning in the NFL Draft. The Raiders could trade up from the 13th overall pick to draft one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft. They could trade back and pick up more draft picks to continue filling holes on their roster with multiple talented but cost-efficient players through the draft.

Or, they could keep the 13th overall pick and draft one of many positions their roster legitimately needs. While Telesco and the Raiders arguably should stay put or trade down, the next most important question is who they select if they stay at 13th. At the moment, few outside of the Raiders organization have any real idea of what the Raiders will do.

While the Raiders have yet to completely solidify their offensive line, they also want to add to their quarterback room. The good news for the Raiders is they recently signed Gardner Minshew who is a serviceable quarterback and fringe starting quarterback in the league. The contract they gave Minshew says the Raiders think so as well.

However, with the 13th pick, if the Raiders were to draft an offensive player, it would likely either be an offensive lineman or, as has been largely speculated, a quarterback. That being said, the Raiders could get a legitimate talent at both positions with the 13th overall pick. If the Raiders cannot trade up for a reasonable price and the top cornerback and offensive linemen are gone, Michael Penix should be the Raiders pick at 13th overall. He could be their most sensible and responsible choice.
