Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby and the rest of Raider Nation learned of some exciting news on Monday.

The Raiders signed star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to a four-year, $110-million contract. Las Vegas now has an interior defensive lineman to take up space in the middle and remove some attention away from Crosby.

Beyond that, Crosby has been progressing well from his offseason surgeries. He had successful surgery on his left knee in January, an injury that plagued him almost the entire 2023 season.

In addition, Crosby also had surgery on his right hand only a few weeks later. Crosby still produced at his regular high level despite playing through two injuries. He finished the season as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate and nearly helped the Raiders return to the postseason after Coach Antonio Pierce took over.

Crosby joined The NFL Report with Steve Wyche, Brian Baldinger, and James Palmer to discuss how he is recovering from his two surgeries.

“I’m doing incredible,” Crosby said. “I started January 22, the earliest I’ve ever been in the building in the offseason, and I’ve been getting to it. I’m already back boxing; I’m able to throw this right hand in my training as well. My knee is feeling incredible; I’m able to run on the treadmill, run in the pool, and I’m flying. My cardio is getting there.”

Crosby sustained a bursa injury in his left knee. He said he had been dealing with the injury since Week 2 last season. In Week 13 against the Kansas City Chiefs, Crosby was listed as doubtful to play but still took the field that week. He did not miss a game last season, keeping an impressive streak alive.

Last season, Crosby navigated through pain in his knee and hand,  and still played like one of the best defensive linemen in the league. He totaled a career-high 90 tackles, 23 tackles for losses and 14.5 sacks.

A knee injury will impact a defensive end’s ability to bend their lower body and get leverage on a pass-rush attempt, so Crosby likely dealt with that but was still able to consistently and effectively rush the passer.

Now that Crosby is healthy, he and Wilkins will look to cause problems for offensive lines all season long.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
