'Happy For Him!' Despite Wild Card Loss, Rams Coach Sean McVay is Proud of Lions QB Jared Goff

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay couldn't help but feel some happiness for his former quarterback on Sunday night.

The Los Angeles Rams' storybook season came to a close on Sunday night, dropping a heartbreaking 24-23 decision to the Detroit Lions in a meeting of quarterbacks with their former franchises.

Jared Goff of the Lions came out on top against his former team in the Rams, and L.A. head coach Sean McVay couldn't help but feel a little happiness for his former signal caller as he delivered the first playoff win to the city of Detroit in 32 years.

“Jared was really efficient,” McVay said. “You can see the command he has. I think there’s a lot made of it, but I’m really happy for him. Obviously, we wanted to come away with the win, but he’s done a great job. I think the grit, the resilience, and the way he’s done his thing here over the last three years, I’m happy for Jared, and I certainly am appreciative of the four years we had together.”

Goff had a stellar night on Sunday, throwing for 277 yards and a score en route to his team's thrilling win.

Still, the Rams likely won't shed too many tears about Goff having taken them down this weekend due to the fact that Matthew Stafford (who was acquired in the Goff trade in 2021) led the franchise to a Super Bowl that same season.

The Rams will now return to the drawing board this offseason with a stable of young talent waiting in the wings. With names like running back Kyren Williams and wideout Puka Nacua, the future is bright in Los Angeles, even after a first-round playoff exit.
