'Ridiculous' Rams Stat on Aaron Donald? Eye-Popping!

Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald is an outlier among defensive tackles when double-teamed

After Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVI, the NFL community collectively wondered if he was the best to ever play his position.

While that topic will be debated as long as No. 99 continues hit the gridiron, a recent statistic has popped up, showing that Donald's dominance is somehow an understatement.

"Since 2017, [Donald's] faced 1,797 double teams, 152 more than anyone else in the defensive field. Yet he still leads all defensive tackles in pass-rush win rate during that span (26%)," according to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler.

ESPN sports analytics writer Seth Walder created a pass-rush/double-team win rate graph among all defensive tackles after the 2021 season. According to the graph, Donald is the definition of an outlier.

Donald's remaining number of years in the NFL is uncertain, especially after he considered retirement following the Super Bowl. However, the 32-year-old earned Pro Bowl honors last season, despite missing six games due to injury.

As Donald heads into his 10th season, he hopes to remain an outlier for as long as he shall play. With that being said, ESPN still considers the 32-year-old the best defensive tackle in the league, but they include Kansas City Chiefs Chris Jones in the same tier.
