Rams Draft 'Surprise': Latest Will Levis, Hendon Hooker Rumors
The Los Angeles Rams extended their streak of not making a first-round draft pick to seven years during Thursday night's opening frame but won't have to wait long to be placed on the clock.
As owners of the No. 36 overall pick, the Rams have just four teams ahead of them ... and several big-name players are still on the board.
Among them is a pair of quarterbacks commonly viewed as top-five players at their position in Kentucky's Will Levis and Tennessee's Hendon Hooker, and with Matthew Stafford as Los Angeles' lone signal caller currently under contract, some have speculated the Rams could go that direction.
However, according to The Athletic, it would "be a surprise" if the Rams took a quarterback as early as No. 36, but to "never say never" with coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead.
'My sense is that the Rams did a ton of work on the later-tier quarterbacks, even with the understanding that both of the aforementioned guys could fall," The Athletic writes.
Los Angeles has been linked to BYU quarterback Jaren Hall, among others, during the pre-draft process, and could be searching for a potential long-term option behind Stafford.
But once more, much of the work done by the Rams' staff has been on "later tier" signal callers, setting the stage for an intriguing decision near the top of Friday night's second round.
