Could Rams Target Panthers' Jeremy Chinn in Free Agency to Help Secondary?

One of the most inconsistent parts of the Los Angeles Rams this past year was their secondary, and the team could help that area by targeting Panthers standout Jeremy Chinn.

Although the Los Angeles Rams' defense performed a lot better this year than a lot of people expected them to, the team's secondary could use a little bit of help.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Alex Kay, he outlines some free agents that he thinks could thrive if they were to go to a new team.

One of the names he mentioned was Carolina Panthers defensive back Jeremy Chinn, who could be a good fit for a team looking to bolster their secondary like the Rams.

"There was a seismic shift upon his return to action this past year, as Chinn only saw the field for a lowly 39 percent of Carolina's defensive snaps, which is a far cry from the 90-plus percent snap share he logged during his first three seasons," Kay writes. "Although another significant injury contributed to that reduction in playing time, Chinn didn't seem to have a defined role in new defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero's system."

The former second-round pick out of Southern Illinois is still only 25 years old, and his best years could still be ahead of him.

There are plenty of cases in the past where all a player needed to realize their true potential was a change of scenery. Rams fans know a couple of those players very well - Matthew Stafford and Marshall Faulk.

Is Chinn either of those players? No. But they are proof close to home that a change of scenery can be exactly what the doctor ordered.

If the Rams were to get a free agent like Chinn, it could really boost the team's odds of making the playoffs again next season, and perhaps more, With Chinn's youth and his athletic ability, he could be an intriguing fit for the Rams' young defensive core.
