Could Rams Sign Xavien Howard After He Is Cut by Dolphins?

The Miami Dolphins plan on cutting one of their star corners, and the Los Angeles Rams could take advantage.

One of the areas that the Los Angeles Rams could stand to improve is their secondary, and an opportunity to do just that has presented itself.

The Miami Dolphins recently announced that they were releasing Xavien Howard, one of their two star corners. The veteran defensive back dealt with a few injuries that led to him missing time this past season, and the Dolphins have decided that they want to move on.

Howard will turn 31 years old in just a few months, but he could still be a key part of any NFL defense. If the Rams want to take a chance on the eight-year veteran, he could provide a veteran presence to the team's young defense.

The Rams were in the bottom five of the NFL this past season in passing yards allowed, as the team's secondary was one of their weaker aspects. Howard would provided a veteran presence to the corners, just as Aaron Donald has provided that same presence to the linebackers and defensive line.

The free agent corner is a four-time Pro Bowler and was AP All-Pro First Team just a few years ago in 2020. Howard has been one of the NFL's most consistent corners and has had four seasons with at least four interceptions, and at least 12 pass breakups in each of his healthy seasons.

Whether the Rams decide to choose a free agent like Howard or make a trade for a piece to add to the secondary, the passing defense will need to be addressed if the team truly wants to contend next season
