Analyst Slams Los Angeles Rams Signing of Corner Darious Williams

The Los Angeles Rams got one of their former corners back, but some think that the deal that they signed him to was not a good one.

The Los Angeles Rams have had quite a few moves in free agency, including getting a player who has already played for them, veteran cornerback Darious Williams.

But in a recent article by Bleacher Report, they rank the 14 free-agent signings from this offseason that they believe are the worst. And the Rams find themselves on that list with the three-year, $22.5 million deal that they gave to Williams.

Oct 1, 2023; London, United Kingdom; Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Darious Williams (31)

"While Darious Williams was paid handsomely to start opposite of Tre'Davious White, there's only so much to expect from an undersized perimeter corner who's allowed nearly 2,000 yards in coverage over the last three seasons," Bleacher Report writes. "Although Williams spent his first four seasons of his NFL career with the Rams, the team didn't re-sign him back in 2021 for a reason... It wouldn't be a shock if GM Les Snead were to add corner talent early in the NFL draft."

Williams is 31 years old, and considering that the Rams signed him to a three-year deal, he will be well past his prime when the deal expires. Despite the length of the deal, the Rams signed him to bring a veteran presence to the young defense and to bring the interception ability that he showed this past season.

He finished the season tied for fifth in the entire league in interceptions with four, one of which he took 61 yards to the house against the Atlanta Falcons in week 4. He also had a solid tackling year for a corner of his size, finishing with 53 total tackles, 44 of them being solo.

While Williams' age could be a concern, the veteran presence he brings could prove to be worth the risk of signing the 31-year-old to a three-year deal.
